Bayan Khatib
Impact Director at Northpine Foundation and co-founder of the Syrian Canadian Foundation
Bayan Khatib is dedicated to empowering newcomers and people of diverse backgrounds and fostering cross-cultural connections in Canada. Serving as the organization’s Executive Director for three years, she helped build SCF from the ground up and pioneered innovative programs for newcomers.
Bayan co-founded the annual Syria Film Festival in Toronto, giving voice to the struggles and hopes of the Syrian people. During the 2011 Syrian uprising, Bayan led a multinational media campaign and spoke at local and international events and conferences about the struggle for freedom in Syria and the ensuing humanitarian crisis.
Bayan is a skilled writer, having translated “Just Five Minutes: Nine Years in the Prisons of Syria,” a memoir of a female political prisoner, and authored a series of short stories, and opinion pieces in The Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star.

Kareem El-Assal
Executive Director of the Canadian Immigration Lawyers Association (CILA)
Kareem El-Assal has been active in the field of immigration since 2010, working across non-profits, the federal government, and the private sector. His expertise spans various immigration issues, including the economic impact of immigration, international students, temporary foreign workers, entrepreneur and investor immigration, public opinion, and immigrant settlement services.
El-Assal has authored over 500 research reports and commentaries, which have been cited by prominent figures such as Canada’s immigration minister, Parliament, the Senate, and Statistics Canada. In addition to his role at CILA, El-Assal is the Principal of El-Assal Insights and Founder of Section 95.

Patrick O’Leary has extensive experience in the immigration field in Malaysia, Australia, the U.K., and Canada, serving as a single point of contact for major client accounts across various industries, providing strategic guidance on immigration policy and legislation.
He previous served at COO at Talent Beyond Boundaries and been instrumental in pioneering new pathways for skilled refugees to find opportunities in host countries. He has for most of his career focused on creating mobility pathways for refugees, helping them rebuild their lives and careers with dignity and respect.
Patrick was a former PRSN Board member and Chair of its Sustainability Committee.
