Most people want Canada to be a welcoming country for refugees – but in recent years the government has been closing the door on protection. In 2024, the Canadian government even said they were hitting pause on the intake of refugee sponsorship applications from Groups of Five and community sponsors for one year. And then last month, they said they were keeping the program closed for another year, to December 2026, even though community groups across the country are ready and waiting to bring refugees to safety.
That’s one more reason why those of us currently involved with refugee resettlement and sponsorship efforts need to remain active by raising our voices and letting the government know that we are ready and wanting to welcome refugees and migrants, together.
The CCR is hosting a custom training for those involved with sponsorship and resettlement efforts across Canada, where we will walk you through how to use the “We’re Better Together” campaign to advocate for a fair and welcoming immigration system.
Training: How People Working for Refugee Resettlement Can Join the “We’re Better Together” Campaign
When: Wednesday, February 25th, 2026, 1:30pm – 3:00pm Eastern
Where: On Zoom
As support for immigrants and refugees continues to backslide in Canada, the “We’re Better Together” campaign has been created to improve public opinion and build momentum for an inclusive immigration system. In this training, leaders from the sector, including Louisa Taylor of Refugee 613, Kaylee Perez of MCC Canada and Kari McCluskey of Resilia Center, will cover the campaign’s messaging, overall strategy, and how to adapt the campaign to support your work in resettlement and sponsorship.
Participants will gain a practical overview of our campaign’s Message Guide and the variety of ways to apply the campaign and resources to your advocacy efforts.
This training will be delivered in English with the support of a French interpreter, and presenters will be able to engage in questions bilingually.
